Well my period was late so I took not one but two pregnancy tests and found out that we are indeed pregnant! I quit smoking and drinking coffee in hopes that it increases my chance of a healthy pregnancy. My motivation for writing this came from reading other women's journals on the net and I have decided to keep a journal about the things that happen in my life while going through pregnancy. I have kept a journal on and off since primary school, and it's amazing to go back and read them and see how much I have changed as a person. Besides, this journal will be wonderful for our child when he/she is old enough to understand and appreciate the miracle of life.

Almost a month ago Joel and I found out that we are pregnant. I have since gone for some blood work to find out my HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone produced by the placenta which doubles every second day. When I was tested the count was 58, 685 which I was told means nothing these days but oh well I guess. I have to keep going to the walk in clinic cause my present family doctor is getting ready to retire in December, and has stored my files. Well on a happy note the doctor that gave me the paper work for the blood work also gave me a request for an ultrasound YAY!!!

Earlier this week I had to go back to the clinic cause I needed a referral for a family doctor. I got lucky and got a family Dr. finally! To top it off she is a woman, which should be great. I had also gotten a referral for an OBGYN but found out that he no longer does Obstetrics. Lucky I Called!!! So my new family doctor referred me to one. Today I had my apt. for my ultrasound. Joel came with me thank God cause my bladder was so full I could not have taken a bus! Unfortunately he couldn't come in because of their policy. If you are under 12 weeks they are not obligated to give you any results nor is anyone allowed to come in. On the up side the technician was really nice. She gave me a peak at the end of the ultrasound only cause there was a yolk sac and the fetus had a heart beat of 177 bpm and measured 3.3 cm so all looks well. Thank God cause I have been praying every night that this little angel is fine.

Well days are flying by! I can't believe that I'm 13 weeks and 1 day already. I had my birthday on the 9th and am now 1/4 century old. Wow where does time go! Joel brought me out for supper at Casey's, and then we went over to my parents place. Everyone went all out this year that's for sure. They bought so much, it was so unnecessary (but still appreciated). But the best gift this year is this baby that is growing inside of me. It all seems like a dream still. It got a little more real today though, I went to my Dr's apt today, it was suppose to be yesterday but the doctor was away so.. They wanted me to wait till next week but, I told the nurse that called that I had some concerns. Last week I has some pains in the groin and headaches, so I just wanted to make sure this was all normal. And of course I'm freaking out for nothing, but I just wanted to make sure. I got on a scale today too [first time in a long time] and boy I should have gotten on one a long time ago. I was also told my Blood Pressure was high today 160/74, the Dr. thinks it was because I had a few salty items to eat this week (nachos and chicken noodle soup) so now she wants to see in a few days just to be on the safe side.

Everyone knows now, my family was ecstatic and Joel's family took it really good too. I'm so happy everything is going well. I can't wait to start this family with Joel.

Well I have been writing everything that I eat down since my last doctor's visit. I went to see my doctor again today and my Blood Pressure was 132/79, now my top is good and my bottom is high. Gees!!! I can't seem to win. My Dr. Natalie now has me on a low sodium diet to see if that makes things any better. She found a wee bit of protein in my urine, so I'm gonna have to be careful cause it usually indicates pre-Eclampsia. Well I'll keep you updated! On a good note I got to hear the baby's heartbeat today for the first time. The minute she put the dobbler on my stomach, there it was that little heartbeat. UNREAL!! It made me so happy, I was trying not to cry, tears of joy of course. I was so overwhelmed that I didn't get a chance to catch a glimpse of Joel's reaction .

Hello again, well the holidays were great they have gone by so fast. We got to spend some time with our families unfortunately not enough but I guess that's life! Well I went to the Dr's today again. I did go on the 22nd too and it was 142/70 but no protein so that's good, today it was 148/78. I don't know what to do anymore this has me so worked up and this sodium diet is driving me crazy!!! Anyhow I got to hear the baby's heartbeat again a strong 150 bpm today! I am measuring like 5 days more then I am (15W2D) but the doctor said it is not accurate until after 20 weeks. We'll see I guess???
